 December 2020

It was Octoberfest in Munich. We had spent an exciting day wandering through kiosks and tents while sampling pretzels and dark beer at the festival. Heading back to the hotel we spied a beautiful church. My friend went inside to admire the mosaics ... waiting outside I was suddenly captivated by music ... a lone violinist ... the Hallelujah Chorus ... my hands took on a life of their own directing an invisible choir ... he nodded and smiled as the music filled the empty street. The final notes trembled on his bow as he stood and bowed ... I smiled and slipped a handful of coins in his cap ...
In hard times it’s good to remember days when the fabric of our lives thins just enough for a brief glimpse of eternity.

Hanukkah
The eighth candle
flares gracefully
and then fades from sight
into the heart
where the small glowing ember
still holds back
the night
May be an image of twilight and sky
